I have card on my desk which says "Do something today that your future self will thank you for." I read it over and over again throughout the day and I appreciate the constant reminder, during the day, of making the best decisions for my future self.
What I have come to realize is that my future self does not have to be way, way out in years to come but can be tomorrow or this afternoon. For instance if I make a good food choice this morning I will feel better later today and tomorrow and conversely if I make a poor food choice this morning then I will likely feel poorly this afternoon. Of course the cumulative effect of many poor choices will affect my future self negatively but the good news is the many healthy choices will affect my future self in a positive way.
Another aspect of my future self includes the thoughts I think today. If I am filled with negativity and fear I will create a much different future than I will create if I am filled with joy, hope and happiness. Of course the obvious is to keep a positive outlook through gratitude, appreciate and an upbeat attitude.
