I am training for RAGBRAI which includes lots of time on my road bike, yoga and some good walks and hikes. I'm not gonna lie I don't love the training but I think the ride will be great fun and make up for not enjoying the training! A reminder, for riding RAGBRAI I am raising money for the H.B. Provisions Fuel Fund where we are able to help local folks with their fuel bills in the winter. Please help us out with a donation.
On another note:
Have I mentioned I am going to be a grandmother in October? I have many friends that rave about how wonderful it is to be a Grandparent and I am so looking forward to meeting the little cherub, Chloe Elizabeth! What I am struck by more than anything is the real miracle of the creation of this little being. When I was pregnant I took this creation for granted and was more involved with how my body felt, my emotional challenges and my daily life. Now as I look at my daughter I am struck at the absolute miracle it is that she is creating a human being. What a gift that all creatures - humans and otherwise are able to not only reproduce but to actually create these miracles with all the workings of the amazing body. These bodies are then filled with a God given soul that will lead them through their journey of life. To say the least I am just over whelmed with this process and feel completely blessed to be able to witness my daughters process.
The other big event in my life is that my partner and I are getting married in September. With the legal changes for Gay Marriage we decided to get married, she asked me in December and was I ever surprised!! My partner had a minor medical emergency a while ago and she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and the EMT had told me to go ahead to the hospital and get started on the paperwork. When I arrived at the hospitsl the receptionist asked who I was here for and if we were related, I told her I was her partner and she said "then you will have to wait in the waiting room". Of course I was shocked since this had never happened before and I anxiously paced while I was waiting to be allowed to see my partner. That was a wake up call for us and the next month when the vote passed for Gay Marriage (here in Maine), she didn't waste any time in popping the question! So now we are planning a small wedding and that includes all the details like where to have it, food, entertainment etc but also how we want the ceremony. We asked a dear friend to be our officiant and the task at hand is coming up with all the right words to make the ceremony special and to say what we want to each other. It is a nice time for reflection, meditation and prayer to getting all the right words.
So there are lots of things going on in my life and the most common thing friends and acquaintances say are, "Congratulations" and we are never quite sure if it is about the grandchild, wedding or newly renovated house but we just say thank you!! What a wonderful summer with so many delightful gifts which I thank God/Universe/Higher Power for all of them!
