Decision making, why is it often so hard? A friend of mine likened the challenge of making a decision to a squirrel in the middle of road running back and forth trying to decide which side of the road to run. Have you ever had that feeling, going from one thing or another trying to decide which is the best way to go? When we get stuck in the trap of indecision we end up losing our way and just stay on that road with no forward momentum.
Think of your decisions as a squirrel might with two choices and both look appealing, lots of acorns and places to explore. If we can't make a decision of which side of the road to go we will end up stuck in the middle waffling between the two choices. We will go no where and we certainly won't be able to find any acorns if we are just running back and forth trying to make that one decision. However if we pick one direction to go we are able to explore, grow and move forward with lots of acorns and lessons about life.
Each day we are asked to make decisions, some are big life changing decisions (do I get married, change job, move) and others are smaller less critical decisions (fish or chicken for dinner, which sweater should I wear today) but all the decisions we make cause our path to be just a little bit different. One thing that is clear is that by making decisions we can move forward in our lives and then there is opportunity to make another decision that will take us further down the path of life. So keep making those choices and enjoying the results knowing that making one choice is better than running back and forth going nowhere.
