Anytime I seem to be in a slump, for one reason or another, I know that if I refocus my energy to those things I am grateful for my energy shifts. When I am working with someone that is new to shifting their energy I challenge them to find 100 things they are grateful for. This really helps to get the juices flowing for them and allows them to see just how much is really, really good in their lives.
If I am in a slump or feeling depressed thinking that life is just not what I thought or wanted it to be I then shift that perspective to what is right and good in my life. It is amazing how we can change our thinking from the negative to the positive and all that goodness moves in and the less desirable moves out.
The beauty of gratitude is that it not only shifts our energies from negative to positive, from depression to well being but it also creates new appreciation for things that we once took for granted. At one time I thought how awful it was that I am living in a tiny apartment with very little to my name. I was humiliated and embarrassed that my life had gone from having a wonderful home with so many things i loved to in my life. This was not at all how I had pictured my life would be. Once I was able to move past the shame and begin my gratitude list I found there was so much goodness in my life. I was able to gain the appreciation I needed for all that I do have in my life. Now I feel so happy for the life that I have and all the amazing things I have been able to do as a result of the way my life is.

I love my little apartment and I love that it is little; it is cozy and comfortable and has all that I need. I have many wonderful, loving and caring friends and I have so many opportunities to do things I never dreamed I would do. My life is full and rich and I appreciate all the little things that I took for granted before. Instead of living with the shame and remorse I am now able to live with love and gratitude for all that I do have. Everyday I spend a few minutes thinking about 5 things that I am grateful for, sometimes I write them down and sometimes I just savor the thoughts of them and let them grow and expand in my mind.
So if you are in slump or feeling sad or depressed get out a pen and paper and start writing your gratitude list. If you are new to a gratitude list then begin with 25 things and add more during the day until you get to 100 glorious things you are grateful for. Have you had an appreciation for things like a roof over your head, hot water, the internet, a meal that someone prepared for you or the moon that lights up the night sky? It is the little things that mean the most and give us that appreciation we need to shift our energy. You will find as you create an attitude of gratitude on a daily basis you will have a better sense of well being and happiness and that’s what I call “the magic of gratitude”!
